Superman: The Triangle Era Omnibus Vol. 1 begins DC's 1990s weekly Superman machine, where Action Comics, Adventures of Superman, Superman and Man of Steel function as one coordinated reading order. The numbered triangles turn the line into a continuous serial rather than separate titles. Jurgens, Ordway, Stern and Simonson build the dense ecosystem that leads toward Death of Superman and the most interconnected Superman publishing era.

The second Birds of Prey omnibus continues Gail Simone's run, with the team taking on covert work and the personal costs that come with it. The Spy Smasher arc is where Oracle nearly loses control of the team to a government handler, and it is the run's clearest statement of what Barbara Gordon is: someone whose real power is information and who will not surrender it. Simone also gives Huntress the best character work of her career here.

The Triangle Era is the name collectors give to the period when Superman's four monthly titles were numbered as one continuous weekly story. This third volume covers the aftermath of his death. This is Reign of the Supermen: four claimants to the name, none of them clearly Clark Kent, and a mystery that ran across every title for months. Hunter/Prey is the sequel to the death itself. It is the most commercially successful Superman story ever published, and the triangle numbering means it only reads properly collected like this.

Batman: The Arkham Saga Omnibus collects the comics surrounding the Arkham games, where Gotham is filtered through the continuity, villains and brutal atmosphere of Rocksteady's universe. The appeal is not a standard Batman run but a game-continuity shelf piece: Joker, Harley, the rogues and Arkham's institutional nightmare expanding around the versions many readers met through the games. It belongs with Batman, but its identity is specifically Arkham-world storytelling.

DCeased is Tom Taylor's zombie apocalypse in the DC Universe, in which the Anti-Life Equation arrives as a digital virus and spreads at the speed of the heroes' own powers. Taylor's rule is that competence spreads the infection: Superman flies, so it flies. Unlike most zombie crossovers, he writes the losses as losses, the deaths land because he spends pages on the relationships first. It is the best-selling DC event of its kind and it works entirely outside continuity.

The middle third of Morrison's run is the part where Bruce Wayne is not in it: presumed dead, travelling backwards through history while Dick Grayson wears the cowl. Dick and Damian invert the classic dynamic, a light Batman and a violent Robin, and it is the most purely enjoyable stretch of the run. Frank Quitely draws the opening. Putting the two series in reading order is the reason to own this: published separately, the two halves kept explaining each other out of sequence.

Wonder Woman by Greg Rucka Omnibus gives Diana a run built on diplomacy, public scrutiny and myth rather than simple superhero spectacle. Rucka treats Wonder Woman as an ambassador with enemies in both Olympus and the modern world, supported by grounded political tension and the moral weight of representing Themyscira. The result is a character-led DC omnibus for readers who want Diana's ideals tested in public, private and divine arenas without reducing her to a supporting Justice League icon.

Catwoman relaunched for the New 52 as a full crime book: Selina Kyle working Gotham's underworld rather than orbiting Batman. The book is at its best when Selina is working: heists planned properly, marks studied, and the costume as a professional tool rather than an identity. Her stint with the Justice League also gives the run a useful contrast, she is the only member who is unambiguously a criminal.

Geoff Johns wrote The Flash for six years starting in 2000, and his contribution was to build Wally West a rogues' gallery worth caring about. Iron Heights is the standout: a prison built specifically for metahumans, run by a warden who tortures them, and it reframed every Flash villain as a person with a life. Johns writes the Rogues as working-class criminals with a code, which is the version DC has used ever since.

The Flash: The Road to Rebirth Omnibus focuses on the road into DC Rebirth, with Barry Allen, Wally West and the Flash legacy shaped by memory, speed, continuity shifts and the feeling of a universe preparing to realign. The appeal is not only continuity; it is watching a specific DC period find its tone, cast and visual rhythm.

The Death and Return of Superman is not just the day Superman falls; it is the whole shockwave after the fall. Doomsday turns the fight into a public wound, Metropolis has to imagine a world without Clark Kent, and four new figures step into the empty space where Superman used to stand. This omnibus keeps the event, grief and rebirth together as one huge DC turning point.

Following DC Rebirth in 2016, Tomasi and Gleason write a father Superman: not a loner or a Clark Kent in crisis, but a man who has to teach his son Jonathan Kent what it means to have powers. The most emotionally accessible Superman of the last decade and an answer to anyone who ever wondered how to tell a story about the character that isn't a fight.

The Bronze Age is when Batman stopped being camp: after the 1966 television series ended, DC deliberately returned the character to the darkness he started in. This is the era that produced Ra's al Ghul, Man-Bat and the modern Two-Face, and it is the direct ancestor of every serious Batman story since. Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams get the credit, but the volume shows the whole line turning at once, the change was editorial policy, not one creative team.

Tom Taylor's Titans is the modern era of the team, in which the former sidekicks take over as the DC Universe's primary superhero team after the Justice League disbands. The premise is the payoff of forty years of setup: Nightwing, Starfire, Beast Boy and Raven finally being the adults in charge rather than the next generation. Beast World is the test, a global crisis where the team has to make the calls the League used to make, and does not get them all right.

Invincible Omnibus Vol. 1 collects the start of Robert Kirkman's acclaimed creator-owned superhero epic — the series behind the hit Prime Video animated show. Mark Grayson is an ordinary teenager whose father is Omni-Man, Earth's most powerful hero. When Mark's own powers arrive he becomes Invincible — right before the series delivers one of comics' great shocking twists about who his father really is. Brutal, character-driven and full of real consequences, drawn by co-creator Cory Walker and definitive artist Ryan Ottley. Includes the famous Marvel Team-Up #14 crossover with Spider-Man.

Peter J. Tomasi and Patrick Gleason wrote Batman and Robin for the whole New 52 era, and their subject was simple: a father and a son who do not know how to talk to each other. This is the run where Damian Wayne dies and where his death actually lands, because Tomasi had spent thirty issues making the relationship work first. Requiem, the near-silent issue that follows, is one of the best single Batman comics of the decade. Gleason draws Damian better than anyone before or since.

Infinite Crisis was DC's 2005 event and the twenty-year sequel to Crisis on Infinite Earths, built to fix a universe the company had let get too dark. The four lead-in miniseries are the reason to own it collected: the event only makes sense if you have seen Batman build the OMACs, Wonder Woman kill on camera and Superman refuse to intervene. It is also the moment DC brought back the multiverse it had spent two decades insisting was gone.

Superman appeared in Action Comics #1 in 1938 and invented the superhero. Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster created him as a champion of the oppressed, and the earliest stories are far angrier than the character's later reputation. The 1938 Superman fights slum landlords, corrupt senators and abusive husbands, he is a social crusader who cannot fly and can be hurt by artillery. Reading the origin of the entire genre is worth it on its own, and the gap between this Superman and the modern one is the most interesting thing in the volume.

John Constantine, Hellblazer by Jamie Delano Omnibus Vol. 2 collects the second half of the run that invented Hellblazer as a genre of its own: political horror set in Thatcher's Britain, where the monsters are usually institutions and John's real weapon is being willing to sacrifice his friends. Delano's Constantine is nastier, funnier and sadder than any version that followed.

Final Crisis is Grant Morrison's 2008 event, in which Darkseid wins on page one and the rest of the story is about what happens to a universe after evil has already taken it. Morrison writes it as a deconstruction of superhero comics themselves: the Anti-Life Equation spreads as a meme, reality degrades into fragments, and the narrative structure breaks down with it. It is DC's most formally difficult event and its most rewarding on a reread, and Batman R.I.P. runs directly into it.

Nightwing: Year One tells the story DC had left as a gap for twenty years: how Dick Grayson stopped being Robin and became something of his own. Chuck Dixon wrote Nightwing for a decade and this is his retrospective origin: Batman fires Dick, and the story is about a young man discovering that being cut loose is the best thing that could have happened. Scott McDaniel draws movement better than anyone who has handled the character since.

The Silver Age is where Batman left noir behind for science fiction: aliens, transformations, Bat-Mite and Ace the Bat-Hound, published under a comics code that had banned almost everything else. This era is usually dismissed and then quietly enjoyed. The stories are absurd by design, Batman turned into a giant, a genie, an alien, but they are also where the supporting cast expands beyond Robin and Gordon for the first time. Kathy Kane's debut in Detective Comics #233 is the historically significant one.

Gail Simone's Birds of Prey is the run that made Oracle, Black Canary and Huntress one of DC's most durable teams, built on competence rather than superpowers. Simone writes Barbara Gordon as the most dangerous person in any room she is in, which is the correct read and one very few writers managed. The Lady Shiva arc is the run's peak, a fight Black Canary cannot win and has to survive anyway, and the humour never undercuts the threat.

Injustice 2 continues the world of the fighting game, five years after Superman's regime fell and with the survivors trying to rebuild a planet that no longer trusts anyone in a cape. Tom Taylor treats the aftermath seriously: Batman has won and now has to govern, which he is worse at than fighting. The book is also a clean entry point, no prior comics required, only the premise, and it gives Damian Wayne, Harley Quinn and the Suicide Squad some of their best material outside continuity.
