John McCrea's line is loose, exaggerated and built for comedy and carnage in equal measure. Over a long partnership with writer Garth Ennis, his cartooning grew bolder and more elastic — faces stretch into caricature, violence lands with a punchline's timing, and quiet character beats carry real weight between the gunfights.

His signature work sits in a few key hardcovers. Hitman, his sixty-issue DC series with Ennis, is his masterpiece — Tommy Monaghan's mix of hitman noir, superhero satire and Gotham grime, collected complete in the Hitman omnibus editions.
