Dan Jurgens returned to Superman for DC's Rebirth initiative in 2016, at a moment when there were two Supermen in continuity and neither the reader nor the characters knew why. Jurgens had written the Death of Superman twenty-five years earlier, and Rebirth let him write the reunion: a Superman with a wife and son, restored after five years of a version DC had struggled to sell. JSA by Geoff Johns Omnibus Vol. 2 collects the team's most celebrated middle era. Now firmly Geoff Johns's book (with David S. Goyer co-writing much of the stretch), the Justice Society becomes a DC flagship through arcs like "Princes of Darkness," "Black Reign", the Black Adam turn that reshaped the character, and "Waking the Sandman." Mark Gruenwald's monumental Captain America run begins here — over a decade of stories that defined the character through the 1980s and early 1990s. Gruenwald was a Marvel lifer who understood Cap at a molecular level, and this first omnibus showcases his extraordinary commitment to building a coherent mythology around Steve Rogers. The Flag-Smasher, the Serpent Society, and the early ULTIMATUM storylines are among the highlights of a run that remains important reading for anyone who wants to understand how Cap was written before Brubaker changed everything.

Green Lantern by Robert Venditti Omnibus Vol. 2 follows the Corps under cosmic leadership pressure, shaped by war-scale decisions, spectrum politics and the cost of carrying a ring when every choice echoes outward. The appeal is seeing this DC period collected as one reading path, with its own tone, cast and visual rhythm.

The Flash: The Rebirth Deluxe Edition Book 3 continues Joshua Williamson's run through its middle stretch, as Barry Allen's relationship with the Rogues and with his own legacy gets considerably more complicated.

The Sandman ran for seventy-five issues between 1989 and 1996 and is the book that proved comics could be sold to people who did not read comics. This half contains Brief Lives, Worlds' End and The Kindly Ones, which is where the whole series turns out to have been a tragedy with a fixed ending all along. The Wake closes it. Gaiman planned the finish from early on and refused to continue past it, which is why the series holds together as a novel rather than a run.

Archie Goodwin's complete Iron Man tenure reaches its conclusion in this third omnibus, representing some of the finest work done on the character in the early 1970s. Goodwin continued to deepen Tony Stark's personal struggles while delivering technically inventive storytelling that pushed against the boundaries of what mainstream Marvel comics were doing.

Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti moved Harley Quinn to Coney Island and gave her a building, a gang of misfits and a life entirely separate from Batman. Separating Harley from the Joker is what made the character work as a lead, and this run is where DC committed to it. Conner's art carries the comedy, and the supporting cast of tenants and sideshow performers gives her something to protect that is entirely her own.

Robert Venditti's Hal Jordan and the Green Lantern Corps begins with the Corps lost in another universe and Hal Jordan operating alone, presumed a criminal. The run's central move is making Sinestro the establishment: his Corps polices the universe legally while the Green Lanterns are the fugitives. Venditti also writes the best Hal Jordan and Sinestro material since Johns, treating their relationship as two men who understand each other far too well.
