Remender used the format to address the damage Cyclops's actions had done to the mutant cause, positioned Havok as a controversial spokesperson for a post-AvX mutant identity, and built toward the Apocalypse Twins storyline — a massive alternate future/time-travel epic where the villains literally won.

Description

Background. Uncanny Avengers launched in October 2012 as the first title of the Marvel NOW! initiative and the direct response to the fallout from AvX. By pairing the Avengers and X-Men in a joint team, Remender was tasked with the meta-narrative challenge of showing why Xavier's dream remained achievable despite Cyclops's Phoenix-fueled extremism. John Cassaday provided the artwork for the opening arc, establishing the book's visual tone before Daniel Acuña took over for the Apocalypse Twins material.

What's inside. This omnibus collects Remender's complete Uncanny Avengers run, covering the Unity Squad's formation and first crisis (Red Skull's theft of Xavier's brain), the Kang timeline divergence, the Apocalypse Twins arc (Ragnarok Now), and the team's reconstitution following the catastrophic events of that storyline. Thor, Scarlet Witch, Wonder Man, and Sunfire are among the key players in the cosmic-scale events Remender orchestrated.

Why it's worth it. The Apocalypse Twins arc is Remender's most ambitious Marvel work — a sustained alternate-future storyline where the villains' plan succeeds and the heroes must find a way to undo a completed catastrophe.
