Batman: The Golden Age Omnibus Vol. 9 follows Batman and Robin deep into their Golden Age groove, shaped by colourful villains, quick cases and a Gotham that already feels like Batman's natural habitat. The appeal is seeing this DC period collected as one reading path, with its own tone, cast and visual rhythm.

Batman: The Golden Age Omnibus Vol. 10 closes the later Golden Age material with Gotham fully established as a place of criminals, masks, gadgets and theatrical danger. Bill Finger, Bob Kane, Dick Sprang, Jim Mooney and Sheldon Moldoff show Batman and Robin in a world where the formula has confidence, speed and bright pulp momentum.

Brian Michael Bendis relaunched the Avengers in 2004 after Disassembled, with a roster nobody expected: Spider-Man, Wolverine and Luke Cage on the same team. The roster is the argument: putting Marvel's biggest sellers in one book was commercially obvious and creatively risky, and Bendis made it work by writing the team as people who argue in kitchens. This is also where the modern Avengers — the version the films drew on — actually starts.

Jonathan Hickman's SHIELD reimagines the Marvel Universe's secret history as a millennia-long conspiracy. The premise: SHIELD has existed since ancient times, and Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Isaac Newton, and Galileo were all agents who fought off alien invasions, cosmic threats, and dimensional incursions long before Nick Fury. It's high-concept historical fiction wrapped in Marvel iconography. Collects SHIELD #1–6 and SHIELD vol. 2 #1–6 ().

Garth Ennis redefined the Punisher in 2004 by moving Frank Castle entirely outside the Marvel Universe. Under the MAX imprint, the series strips away superheroes and delivers raw, unflinching crime fiction. This first omnibus collects the opening chapters of what many consider the major Punisher run — brutal, literary, and uncompromising.

Batman and Robin Eternal was the second weekly Bat-series, published while Bruce Wayne had no memory of being Batman and Dick Grayson was working as a spy. The hook is that Bruce is unavailable, so the entire Bat-family has to solve it without him and without being able to ask what he knew. It also introduces Cassandra Cain to the post-Flashpoint continuity, arriving in Gotham as a silent young woman looking for Batman, which is the best version of that entrance anyone has written.

Brian Azzarello and Cliff Chiang rewrote Wonder Woman for the New 52 as Greek mythology rather than superheroics: a family drama where the family are gods. Chiang and Azzarello redesign the entire Greek pantheon as unnerving modern figures, and the horror register they use for the gods is unlike anything else in DC's line. It is the most critically praised Wonder Woman run of the modern era and it reads completely standalone.

The Hulk debuted in 1962 and was cancelled after six issues. Marvel then spent the rest of the decade finding him a home in Tales to Astonish until he could carry a title again. The six-issue original series is where Lee and Kirby work out what the character is — grey in #1, changing at nightfall, then turning green and losing the schedule — and the Tales to Astonish run is where Ditko and Kirby settle him into the Marvel Universe. It is the full, messy origin rather than the tidy version.

Jed MacKay's Doctor Strange run opens by killing him: the Sorcerer Supreme is murdered in the first issue and has to solve his own death. Strange (2022) is the best part: Clea Strange takes the title and the job, and MacKay writes her as someone ruling by force where her husband ruled by knowledge. The later Doctor Strange run then reunites them, and the marriage is written as a genuine partnership between two very different kinds of magician.

PRH frames this as the conclusion to Chris Claremont's 2000s X-Treme X-Men run. The book keeps the team away from a simple mansion status quo, leaning into missions, political pressure and character-specific fallout. This is the closing shelf for Claremont's X-Treme period. It suits readers who want an X-Men team book with travel, intrigue and emotional aftermath rather than only central-line crossover machinery.

The second Incredible Hulk omnibus covers Peter David's most celebrated stretch, when the Hulk's personalities merged and the book became a study of an integrated mind under pressure. The Pantheon arrives, Doc Samson integrates grey, green and Banner into one person, and issue #400 pays off the Leader's long campaign. David spends the rest of the volume testing whether the merger holds against the Abomination, the U-Foes and Freedom Force. It is the run's centre of gravity.

Mark Waid and Chris Samnee took Daredevil out of noir deliberately: bright colours, San Francisco sunlight, and a Matt Murdock who had decided to be happy on purpose. The premise is that Matt is performing happiness as a coping strategy and the book knows it, which gives the brightness an undertow. Samnee's art won awards for good reason, and the way the pair render Matt's radar sense — as a world of shapes rather than darkness — is the best solution anyone has found to drawing a blind protagonist.

The third X-Factor omnibus covers the run's final years, when Peter David abandoned the detective format for something closer to a supernatural serial. The renumbering to #200 marks the shift: demons, Hela, a pregnancy with cosmic implications, and Rahne Sinclair's storyline, which is the bleakest thing in the run. David had been writing these characters for the better part of a decade by this point, and the ending he gives Jamie Madrox pays off material planted in the first volume.

The Thing Omnibus focuses on Ben Grimm outside the normal Fantastic Four frame, with solo adventures that show the humor, stubbornness and bruised heart behind The Thing. It works especially well for Fantastic Four collectors who want Ben Grimm's solo corner and the Marvel texture around his own supporting cast and conflicts.

Batman: Knightfall Omnibus Vol. 2 collects Knightquest, the middle movement of the saga where Jean-Paul Valley takes over as Batman. Gotham gets a more violent Dark Knight, while Scarecrow, the Joker, Gunhawk and others test what happens when the symbol is worn without Bruce Wayne's restraint.

J. Michael Straczynski relaunched Thor in 2007 after Asgard had been destroyed and the character absent from Marvel for three years. Straczynski's move was to rebuild Asgard as a floating town in rural Oklahoma, with gods as immigrants in the American Midwest, and it is the best Thor premise since Kirby. Kieron Gillen then takes over and writes Loki's turn, and Siege closes Marvel's Dark Reign era from Asgard's point of view.

The Flash by Joshua Williamson Omnibus Vol. 1 launches Barry Allen into a modern DC run built on momentum, mystery and emotional strain. Carmine Di Giandomenico, Davide Gianfelice and Howard Porter give the speed a sharp visual pulse while Williamson rebuilds the hero's world around legacy and consequence.

Batman: The Golden Age Omnibus Vol. 5 captures Batman and Robin in the middle of their early expansion, with Gotham's criminals becoming stranger, the cases more playful and the visual language more settled. The stories are direct, colourful and full of the serial confidence that made the characters last.

Death of Wolverine Omnibus follows Logan at his most exposed: stripped of his healing factor, hunted by enemies who suddenly have a real chance, and forced to face what remains when survival is no longer guaranteed. It is a closing chapter built around mortality, legacy and the weight of a life spent as Marvel’s most relentless survivor.

This omnibus gathers Peter David's later Hulk work: the stories he returned to write after leaving the monthly title, spread across two decades. The End is the centrepiece: the last man on Earth is Bruce Banner, and he cannot die because the Hulk will not let him. It is eight pages of premise and thirty of consequence, and it is the bleakest thing Marvel has published about the character. The rest of the volume is David revisiting a run he clearly never finished with.

The sixth Golden Age volume covers the end of the 1940s, the last years before the Comics Code and the science-fiction turn of the Silver Age. Dick Sprang's Gotham, oversized props, giant typewriters, clockwork deathtraps, is the visual language people still parody, and this is the period where it peaked. It is also the last stretch where the stories are genuinely crime fiction before the aliens arrive, which makes the volume a clear historical endpoint.

New Teen Titans Omnibus Vol. 1 follows the beginning of the Wolfman and Pérez Titans era, shaped by Robin, Starfire, Raven, Cyborg, Beast Boy, Wonder Girl and Kid Flash finding a shared emotional engine. The appeal is seeing this DC period collected as one reading path, with its own tone, cast and visual rhythm.

PRH describes this as the final volume of Peter David's ever-evolving X-Factor. The book moves from the endgame of the 2005 series into All-New X-Factor, shifting from survival and loss to a new team model with corporate backing. This is the closing shelf for David's long modern X-Factor project. It is useful for readers who want the run's full shape: investigation, trauma, team collapse and reinvention rather than a simple superhero squad status quo.

Futures End was DC's 2014 weekly series, set five years after the present day in a future the New 52 was heading toward. The Five Years Later month is the interesting experiment: every DC book skipped ahead simultaneously, showing where each character ended up, and then went back. Some of those futures were later made canon and some were quietly dropped, which makes the volume a snapshot of DC's plans at a specific moment.
