Justice League relaunched in 2011 as the flagship of DC's New 52, with Geoff Johns and Jim Lee starting the entire universe from scratch. It is the run where Hickman's structural habits — long games, hidden org charts, betrayals planted issues in advance — first appear at full scale. The central reveal — that Hydra and S.H.I.E.L.D. grew from the same root — reshaped Marvel espionage permanently and set up everything Hickman later did on Avengers and Secret Wars. It also stands alone: a complete twenty-eight issue story with a beginning and an ending, which is rare for a run of this influence.

PRH presents Mark Waid's Daredevil as a major modern run, built around Matt Murdock facing danger with a different attitude than the bleakest chapters of his history. The tone is brighter on the surface, but the threats remain personal, strange and severe. This is the entry shelf for Waid's Daredevil: a run that changes the emotional light around Matt without turning him into a simple feel-good hero. Peter Milligan and Mike Allred reimagined X-Force as a team of mutants whose primary power isn't strength or telepathy — it's fame. X-Statix (originally called X-Force until the name change) is a corporate-sponsored superhero team that exists primarily to generate media content.

Benjamin Percy's Ghost Rider run begins with Johnny Blaze as the King of Hell — a status earned at the end of his previous arc — and uses that elevation to reframe the character entirely. Peter J. Tomasi wrote Detective Comics through the late 2010s, focusing on the detective side of the character and on the people Batman puts at risk by knowing them. The opening case is a murder at the Gotham Aquarium staged to recreate the Waynes' killing, down to the playbill and the pearls, and the run keeps that register: someone hunting the people closest to Batman, and Batman unable to work out who without exposing them further. Mahnke's Gotham is genuinely unpleasant to look at, which is the correct choice here.

Spider-Man Vs. Venom Omnibus gathers the rivalry between Peter Parker, Eddie Brock and the symbiote legacy as it spreads through Spider-Man and Venom stories. The focus is the black-suit fallout, Venom's early threat, Carnage-era escalation and the way the conflict turns personal instead of simply monstrous.

The Flash: The Silver Age Omnibus Vol. 3 focuses on Barry Allen's early era, with the Flash shaped by time-bending problems, bright science and villains built around motion and wit. The appeal is not only continuity; it is watching a specific DC period find its tone, cast and visual rhythm.

X-Men: Grand Design Omnibus collects Ed Piskor's stunning retelling of the entire X-Men history from the beginning — a love letter to classic X-Men in a unique artistic style. Ed Piskor spent years researching X-Men continuity to distill the entire history — from Xavier's first meeting with Magneto through Inferno — into a single cohesive visual narrative. Piskor's retro art style evokes the original Kirby and Neal Adams era while making it accessible to modern readers. Winner of multiple Eisner awards. Mutant Massacre is the crossover that broke the classic X-Men: the Marauders enter the Morlock tunnels and slaughter a community that had nowhere else to live. It is the first Marvel crossover where the heroes simply fail to prevent the atrocity, and the damage is permanent: Colossus paralysed, Kitty Pryde phasing out of existence, Angel losing his wings. Having the Thor and Daredevil chapters here matters — the rescue happens across other people's books, which is what made the event feel citywide.

Batman: Gotham Adventures is the comic spun off from The New Batman Adventures, continuing the animated series in print with the same design language. The animated house style forces discipline: every issue is a complete story with a beginning and an end, no continuity to catch up on, and villains written to be understood in twenty-two pages. It is the most reliable Batman comic to hand to someone who has never read one.

The second Nocenti and Romita Jr. omnibus covers the end of their run, when the book left New York entirely and became something closer to allegory. Matt Murdock loses his memory, ends up in rural Vermont and then in Hell itself, and Nocenti uses the distance to write about power in the abstract. Romita Jr., Lee Weeks and Greg Capullo share the art. It is the strangest sustained run in the character's history and the hardest to find collected elsewhere.

One of the absolute pinnacles of American superhero comics. Simonson introduces Beta Ray Bill (a horse alien who proves himself worthy of Mjölnir), brings back Surtur as a cosmic menace, transforms Thor into a frog, and elevated the character's mythology to unseen heights. If you're only going to read one Thor in your life, make it this one.

Jason Aaron's Ghost Rider took Johnny Blaze's curse and asked who issued it. The answer — a rogue angel running his own operation — turns the book into a war against Heaven. Zadkiel tries to seize control of every Ghost Rider on Earth, and there are more of them than Blaze knew. Aaron writes it as grindhouse: new villains every few issues, Danny Ketch back as the other Ghost Rider, and a showdown between the two that the character had been avoiding for two decades. It reads as one complete story rather than a fragment of a longer run.

Doctor Strange was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1963 as a back-up strip in Strange Tales, and Ditko used the format to draw dimensions no comic had attempted before. Ditko's psychedelic dimensions predate the counterculture that later claimed them, and they are still the visual reference for every Doctor Strange adaptation. The Eternity sequence in particular is one of the most reproduced images in comics history. This is the run that invented Marvel's entire magical cosmology.

PRH frames this volume as 1970s Daredevil material packed with new characters, key moments and gritty art. The book catches Matt Murdock before the Miller era fully takes over, but close enough to feel the ground changing under Hell's Kitchen. This is a transition shelf for Daredevil collectors: still rooted in the broader Marvel adventure style, but already moving toward the sharper crime, romance and danger that would define the character's next major identity.

Deadpool: Beginnings collects the mercenary's earliest appearances — from his New Mutants debut through his initial solo outings — before the character had fully evolved into the fourth-wall-breaking icon he would become. Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld created a character who was initially played fairly straight as a threat, and watching the early material shows how gradually the humor, self-awareness, and meta-commentary were layered onto what began as a fairly conventional 90s assassin concept.

Ultimate Fantastic Four rebuilt the team for the Ultimate line: four students at a government think tank rather than four adults in a rocket. Making them nineteen changes everything: Reed is a prodigy nobody supervises, and the accident is his fault in a way the original never was. The Ultimate Marvel Zombies storyline starts in this volume, which is where that entire franchise came from, and the N-Zone arc is Warren Ellis writing hard science fiction.

Moon Knight spent the seventies as a Werewolf by Night villain before Doug Moench and Bill Sienkiewicz turned him into Marvel's strangest lead: a mercenary with multiple identities who answers to an Egyptian moon god. This is the character's actual origin, first appearance included, and the run where Sienkiewicz stops imitating Neal Adams and becomes Sienkiewicz. It also builds the rogues' gallery nobody else has — Bushmaster, Arsenal, Stained Glass Scarlet — and explains why every modern Moon Knight run keeps returning to Marc Spector's fractured identity.

Wally West is no longer just the kid who inherited Barry Allen's speed. In Mark Waid's second Flash omnibus, he has to earn the name, understand the legacy and discover what kind of hero he can become when the whole DC universe still measures him against the past. This volume keeps the heart of Waid's run intact: speed, family, doubt, momentum and the slow transformation of Wally into the Flash on his own terms.
