About this omnibus

Scalped, collected as a pack of 2 oversized omnibus volumes and cheaper than buying them one by one. Dashiell Bad Horse comes back to the Prairie Rose reservation after fifteen years away, working undercover for the FBI against the tribal boss who runs the new casino. Jason Aaron and R.M. Guera wrote the best crime comic of its decade by refusing to let anyone in it be simply guilty or simply innocent. Bad Horse finally knows who killed his mother, and knowing it does not save anybody. The second omnibus takes Scalped through its last thirty issues, where every character has to pay for the choices made in the first half and Aaron refuses to hand out a single clean ending.

More from Jason Aaron

Jason Aaron omnibus editions are built around mythic pressure, violent momentum and long-form reinvention, especially Thor, Punisher and modern Marvel icons.

Thor by Jason Aaron Omnibus Vol. 1

Thor by Jason Aaron Omnibus Vol. 1

Jason Aaron wrote Thor for seven years, and his opening question was simple: what happens to a god when he stops being worthy of his own hammer. God of Thunder opens with Gorr the God Butcher across three timelines at once — young Thor, present Thor and King Thor — which is the best Thor story anyone has written and the direct source for the fourth film. Jane Foster then takes the hammer while dying of cancer, and Aaron refuses to make that easy.

Punisher Max by Aaron & Dillon Omnibus

Punisher Max by Aaron & Dillon Omnibus

PRH frames this as Jason Aaron and Steve Dillon's uncensored Punisher MAX run in oversized format. The story drops Frank Castle into a crime war where Kingpin is not just a target, but a force capable of dragging him lower than usual. This is Punisher for readers who want the harsher MAX version rather than a superhero crossover shelf. Aaron and Dillon treat Frank's war as ugly, direct and psychologically punishing, with Kingpin acting as the pressure point for the whole run.

Ghost Rider by Jason Aaron Omnibus

Ghost Rider by Jason Aaron Omnibus

Jason Aaron's Ghost Rider took Johnny Blaze's curse and asked who issued it. The answer — a rogue angel running his own operation — turns the book into a war against Heaven. Zadkiel tries to seize control of every Ghost Rider on Earth, and there are more of them than Blaze knew. Aaron writes it as grindhouse: new villains every few issues, Danny Ketch back as the other Ghost Rider, and a showdown between the two that the character had been avoiding for two decades. It reads as one complete story rather than a fragment of a longer run.

Thor by Jason Aaron Omnibus Vol. 2

Thor by Jason Aaron Omnibus Vol. 2

The second Aaron omnibus completes the run: Jane Foster's tenure ends, Thor gets his hammer back, and the War of the Realms finally arrives after six years of build-up. Aaron plants the War of the Realms in his first year and pays it off in his last, which almost nobody at Marvel gets to do. King Thor is the ending: the last god at the end of the universe, closing the three-timeline structure he opened with. It is one of the few complete, self-contained superhero runs of the era.

Wolverine Goes to Hell Omnibus

Wolverine Goes to Hell Omnibus

Jason Aaron's Wolverine run opens with Logan's soul dragged to Hell while his body is possessed and turned loose on his friends. It is the most literal-minded revenge story of Aaron's career and the run that led straight into X-Men: Schism. Aaron writes Hell as a family reunion — Logan's dead relatives and enemies are waiting for him — and the escape is the easy part; the consequences are not. Including Schism matters, because the run ends with Logan and Cyclops splitting the X-Men, and this is the volume that shows why the argument was inevitable.

Wolverine by Jason Aaron Omnibus Vol. 1

Wolverine by Jason Aaron Omnibus Vol. 1

Jason Aaron wrote Wolverine for six years across several titles, and this first omnibus covers the solo run where Logan is put through as much punishment as Marvel could invent. Aaron writes Wolverine as a man who cannot die and therefore cannot escape anything, which turns the healing factor from a power into a sentence. The art roster is exceptional throughout, and this volume sets up the Hell arc and Schism that follow.

Wolverine & the X-Men by Jason Aaron Omnibus

Wolverine & the X-Men by Jason Aaron Omnibus

Wolverine & the X-Men followed Schism, with Logan opening a school in Westchester and discovering that running one is harder than fighting. The premise is comedy — the least responsible X-Man as headmaster — and Aaron plays it that way while taking the students seriously. Chris Bachalo and Nick Bradshaw draw it, and the Hellfire Club as a group of murderous twelve-year-olds is the best villain idea of the era.

Avengers Forever by Jason Aaron Omnibus

Avengers Forever by Jason Aaron Omnibus

Jason Aaron's Avengers Forever is the cosmic-scale companion to his main Avengers run — a multiverse-spanning series bringing together Avengers variants from across the Marvel omniverse to battle the Multiversal Masters of Evil, a team of the most dangerous villains from different realities assembled by a version of Doom who conquered his entire universe. Aaron used the multiverse premise to comment on the Avengers concept itself, asking what the team means when its existence replicates across every possible reality.

Description

Background. Scalped was pitched as a crime series on an Indian reservation and turned into a sixty issue novel about addiction, corruption and what people owe the place they come from. It is the run that made Jason Aaron's name before Marvel took him.

What's inside. Vol. 1 collects the first half, with art by R.M. Guera and others, oversized for the first time. Vol. 2 collects the second half, including The Gnawing and the final arc.

Why it's worth it. Guera's scratchy, mud coloured artwork is the whole tone of the book and it has never been printed this large. Very few crime series get to finish on their own terms; Scalped did, and the ending is why people keep recommending it fifteen years later. Both halves are in this pack.

Edition details. 2 volumes, 1584 pages total. Oversized hardcovers. US edition published by DC Comics.
