Italy is the best-served translated market in Europe, which makes it the right place to ask a sharper question: with the strongest local omnibus offering on the continent, what does the American edition still give an Italian collector?

Panini is an Italian company, headquartered in Modena. Italy is its home market, and it shows: Panini publishes a Marvel Omnibus line there, launched in 2007, in hardcover at 18.3 by 27.7 centimetres — and a dedicated DC Omnibus line as well.

That makes Italy the European market with the most complete translated omnibus offering there is. Both publishers, both in omnibus format, in Italian.

One argument that carries less weight in Italy

Across most of Europe, the strongest case for the American edition is scale: the US line has by far the deepest omnibus programme, and most marquee runs eventually get one, while a translated line puts only a handful into omnibus and sends the rest to other formats, so the shelf never matches. Italy is the exception, and it is only fair to say so: with Marvel Omnibus and DC Omnibus both running, a good deal of a collection can be built in one format in Italian.
