If you collect Marvel or DC in the Netherlands and you want omnibus editions, the decision is simpler than in most of Europe. There is no Dutch-language omnibus line to choose from.
That is not a slight on Dutch publishing. It is a description of the market, and it changes what the question even is.
What exists in Dutch
Marvel has a long Dutch history, and the licence has changed hands several times: Junior Press, then Z-Press, then Standaard Uitgeverij, whose line ran from 2015 until the last issues shipped in 2017. Since 2018, Dutch Marvel translations have been published by Dark Dragon Books. Panini holds the Marvel licence worldwide on Disney's behalf and sublicenses it by territory.
DC has moved around too. Dutch translations go back to the 1960s and ran through Junior Press in the 1980s and 1990s. Since 2021 the DC licence has also been with Dark Dragon Books, so the same publisher now holds both Marvel and DC in Dutch, with a programme built around self-contained stories and miniseries rather than long ongoing runs.
What none of that adds up to is a large-format collected line. There is no Dutch equivalent of Marvel Omnibus or DC Omnibus, the way Panini runs them in Italy or Spain.
What that means in practice
The usual European debate is which language to collect a long run in. In the Netherlands that debate does not apply to omnibus, because the format only exists in English. If you want a complete era in one heavy hardcover, you are buying the American edition.
The practical questions become different ones. Where does the stock sit, so you avoid import VAT and courier handling fees on arrival? How is a two to three kilo hardcover packed for transit? Buying from a shop with stock inside the EU answers both.
What you gain by collecting in English here
Rather more than the format alone. You get the complete catalogue instead of a selection, new volumes at release instead of years later, and the original text and lettering as drawn. Dutch editions remain a fine way to read a specific story in your own language, and Dark Dragon publishes both Marvel and DC — they are simply not how a long collection in one format gets built.
