About this omnibus

Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema turned a toy licence into one of Marvel's great cult sagas, and this pack collects the original run in two oversized omnibus volumes. Rom, greatest of the Spaceknights of Galador, lands in small-town America to hunt the Dire Wraiths, shape-shifting invaders hidden among humanity, having traded his own humanity for cybernetic armour and a two-hundred-year war. A founding cult classic that spent decades out of print, now collected in two volumes.

Rom: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus Vol. 1

The first time Rom the Spaceknight's Marvel run has been collected in one book. Bill Mantlo turned a Parker Brothers electronic toy into a genuine Marvel Universe saga, threading the Dire Wraiths through S.H.I.E.L.D., the X-Men and Doctor Strange, while Sal Buscema drew the entire run. It gathers the origin and Rom's arrival on Earth across his first twenty-nine issues, a Bronze Age cult classic locked out of print for decades by licensing disputes.

Description

Background. Rom launched in 1979 as a Parker Brothers toy tie-in and outlived the toy by years: Bill Mantlo and Sal Buscema built it into one of Marvel's most beloved cult sagas, a long war story hidden inside the Marvel Universe. This pack collects the original run, unavailable for decades until Marvel recovered the rights.

What's inside. Volume 1 opens with Rom's arrival in Clairton, West Virginia and the hunt for the shape-shifting Dire Wraiths, as the invasion spreads into the wider Marvel Universe. Volume 2 escalates the Wraith War with guest appearances, annuals and the saga's darkest chapters.

Why it's worth it. A cult classic that spent decades out of print for rights reasons. Bought together as a pack it costs less than the two volumes separately and ships in one protected box.

Edition details. 2 volumes, 1368 pages total. US edition published by Marvel Comics.
