Background. Fantastic Four's mid-Silver Age run represents the peak of Jack Kirby's creative output — the period that introduced the Black Panther (FF #52), the Inhumans (FF #44-48), the Silver Surfer and Galactus (FF #48-50), and the full exploration of the Negative Zone. These innovations arrived with such frequency in 1965-1967 that later scholarship has struggled to explain how a monthly schedule could produce them. Kirby was at the height of his powers and Lee's scripting elevated every concept.
