Description

Background. Millar and Hitch launched their Fantastic Four run in 2008, following their career-defining Ultimates collaboration at Marvel, bringing the same approach to the classic team: Bryan Hitch's photorealistic, architecturally detailed artwork at full size with Millar's high-concept plotting. The run was designed as a complete creative statement — a 16-issue arc with a beginning, middle, and end — rather than an ongoing narrative, which gave it a cinematic completeness that ongoing runs rarely achieve.

What's inside. This omnibus collects the complete Millar/Hitch Fantastic Four run, covering the Old Power Skrulls invasion, Reed Richards' confrontation with alternate versions of himself in the Council of Reeds, and the emotional aftermath of a future-set vision showing the team's ultimate fate. The collection includes the full arc plus associated annual material, presented at the oversized scale appropriate for Hitch's detailed artwork.

Why it's worth it. The Council of Reeds concept — an assembly of alternate-universe Reed Richards who have solved every problem and abandoned their families — is Millar's most genuinely interesting contribution to FF mythology, and Hitch's visualization of the different Reed variants is among his finest character design work. The run functions as a complete standalone Fantastic Four story that works without knowledge of surrounding continuity.
