Writers

Jim Starlin

Jim Starlin is an American comic book writer and artist best known for creating Thanos and writing the landmark cosmic Marvel sagas Infinity Gauntlet, Infinity War, and Infinity Crusade. His invention of Thanos in 1973 eventually became the backbone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first decade. Starlin's cosmic storytelling established the template for large-scale Marvel events and his omnibus collections are essential for any serious collector of Marvel's cosmic side.

Batman: A Death in the Family Deluxe Edition

Batman: A Death in the Family Deluxe Edition

In 1988 DC set up a 900 number and let readers vote on whether Jason Todd, the second Robin, would survive. By a margin of 72 votes out of more than ten thousand, they chose to kill him. Jim Starlin and Jim Aparo wrote and drew the outcome, and DC did not reverse it for almost twenty years. Pairing the two arcs is the point: the first shows the cost, the second shows what Batman becomes without it. Read together they explain why Batman spent two decades unable to talk about Jason, and they set up Under the Red Hood directly. This is foundational continuity rather than a curiosity, and the deluxe format is the cleanest way to own it.

The Thanos Wars: Infinity Origin Omnibus

The Thanos Wars: Infinity Origin Omnibus

Before Infinity Gauntlet, Jim Starlin spent years establishing who Thanos was and why he worshipped Death. This omnibus collects the origin material and early cosmic battles that made Thanos something other than a standard villain: a true believer whose nihilism has theological roots. It covers the foundational Starlin Thanos material that Infinity Gauntlet was built upon.

Batman: The Cult Deluxe Edition

Batman: The Cult Deluxe Edition

Batman: The Cult Deluxe Edition collects Jim Starlin and Bernie Wrightson's brutal 1988 mini-series, back in print for the first time in over a decade. Batman is captured by Deacon Blackfire, a charismatic preacher building an army in Gotham's sewers, and is starved, drugged and broken until he begins to believe.
