Background. Larry Hama took over Wolverine's solo series in 1990 and ran it for the majority of the decade, transforming what had been a psychologically-oriented character study into one of Marvel's most consistently readable action series. Hama's military background — he is a Vietnam veteran — gave Logan's combat sequences an authenticity and specificity that previous Wolverine writers hadn't achieved, and his supporting cast additions including Maverick, Silver Fox, and Team X became central to Wolverine's mythology.

This first Hama omnibus collects his early Wolverine issues, introducing the Team X flashbacks that established Logan's Cold War history, the Weapon X program's full context, and key new supporting characters. Why it's worth it. Hama's Wolverine run is the action-comics gold standard of 1990s Marvel — military-precise, character-respectful, consistently plotted.
