Jonathan Hickman wrote Avengers and New Avengers as a single three-year story about two problems: a universe expanding beyond what heroes can protect, and a secret council willing to destroy worlds to save this one. The two titles are designed to be read alternating: Avengers is scale and optimism, New Avengers is the Illuminati quietly deciding who dies. Infinity is where they meet. It is the most structurally ambitious Avengers run ever published, and it builds directly to Secret Wars.

Secret Invasion is the Marvel event that made paranoia the plot. Brian Michael Bendis spent years seeding Skrull replacements across the Avengers titles before the full infiltration exploded into a line-wide crossover. The premise — any hero could be a Skrull — destabilized reader trust in every character simultaneously. Onslaught was the 1996 crossover built to clear the board: a psychic entity born from Xavier and Magneto that ends with the Avengers and Fantastic Four apparently dead. The reason to read it now is what it was for: Marvel needed to move its non-mutant heroes out of the way for Heroes Reborn, and Onslaught is the machinery that did it. It also pays off years of Xavier subplots — the villain is his own repressed capacity for violence, which is a better idea than the event's reputation suggests.

The second Hickman omnibus takes the run to Time Runs Out: eight months into the future, with the Avengers split and the incursions accelerating. This is where the moral question stops being hypothetical: the Illuminati have destroyed worlds, the other Avengers know, and there is no version of the argument where anyone is clean. Hickman also does something rare in superhero comics — he lets the plan fail, and the volume ends with the universe actually running out of time.

Captain America's Silver Age comeback — the Stan Lee and Jack Kirby run that redefined the character for a new generation. This omnibus collects Cap's return from suspended animation in Avengers #4 and the subsequent solo adventures that grappled with themes of displacement, identity, and heroism in a changing world. Lee and Kirby brought genuine emotional depth to a man out of time, and the stories here — including the introduction of the Falcon and key HYDRA storylines — remain some of the most influential in Cap's history. A cornerstone of any serious Marvel Silver Age collection.

Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 1 is the foundation of Peter Parker as a different kind of superhero: insecurity, guilt, jokes, money trouble and responsibility all arriving at once. Stan Lee and Steve Ditko introduce the origin, Aunt May, J. Jonah Jameson and the villains who shape Spider-Man's earliest mythology.

The third Amazing Spider-Man omnibus covers the transition from Stan Lee and John Romita Sr. to Gerry Conway, and the two issues that ended the Silver Age of the character. Issues #121-122 are here: the Green Goblin, Gwen Stacy and the George Washington Bridge. Nothing in superhero comics had done that before, and the industry treats it as the moment the genre stopped guaranteeing happy endings. The volume also contains the six-armed Spider-Man arc and the first appearances of Morbius and the Punisher.

The fourth Amazing omnibus is the Gerry Conway and Ross Andru era in full: Peter Parker after Gwen's death, working out how to keep going. This stretch contains the original Clone Saga — the 1975 storyline that Marvel would revisit disastrously twenty years later — plus the debuts of the Punisher, Hammerhead and the Jackal. It is also where Mary Jane moves from background character to lead, which is the quiet structural work that made the next four decades possible.

Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 2 moves the original series into the John Romita Sr. era, where Peter Parker's world becomes brighter, more romantic and more socially tangled. Mary Jane Watson steps fully onto the stage, the Kingpin arrives, and Spider-Man's supporting cast starts to feel like a living Marvel soap opera.

Daredevil launched in 1964 as Marvel's take on a blind superhero, created by Stan Lee and Bill Everett, with Wally Wood arriving early to give him the red costume he still wears. The early issues are lighter than the character's reputation suggests — closer to Spider-Man than to noir — and that contrast is the interest: this is the book Frank Miller would later invert completely. Wally Wood's costume redesign in #7 is one of the most durable design decisions in comics.

Marvel Team-Up launched in 1972 with a simple format: Spider-Man plus one other Marvel character, every month, no continuity required. The format is the appeal: each issue is a complete story, which makes this the most readable seventies Marvel omnibus for someone dipping in rather than committing. It is also a survey of the whole line at that moment, since the guest star rotates through every book Marvel was publishing.

Doctor Strange was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1963 as a back-up strip in Strange Tales, and Ditko used the format to draw dimensions no comic had attempted before. Ditko's psychedelic dimensions predate the counterculture that later claimed them, and they are still the visual reference for every Doctor Strange adaptation. The Eternity sequence in particular is one of the most reproduced images in comics history. This is the run that invented Marvel's entire magical cosmology.
