Description

Background. Peter David took over the Incredible Hulk in 1987 and immediately began dismantling the simplistic 'monster smash' version of the character. Drawing on Jungian psychology and noir fiction, David reimagined Bruce Banner as a fractured psyche housing multiple personas — each representing a different aspect of his trauma. The late 1980s Marvel landscape was increasingly willing to take risks with long-form character work, and David exploited that freedom brilliantly.

What's inside. This omnibus collects key issues from David's celebrated run, centering on the Joe Fixit era — the grey Hulk working as a mob enforcer in Las Vegas. Also included are the 'Pardoned' storyline in which Banner receives a presidential pardon, confrontations with S.H.I.E.L.D., and the early seeds of the merged 'Professor Hulk' persona that would define the next phase of the run.
