Longshot

Longshot is an artificial being engineered in the Mojoverse, a media-saturated dimension where enslaved beings perform for ratings, who escaped to Earth with hollow bones, four-fingered hands, a starred left eye, and the ability to alter probability in his favor when his intentions are pure. He does not remember his past. His 1980s Art Adams design, the leather jacket, the blades, is a product of its moment and completely irreducible to it.

The original Longshot miniseries by Ann Nocenti and Arthur Adams is the essential text: six issues building the Mojoverse mythology from scratch, collected in its own trade edition. Longshot's subsequent X-Men years under Claremont, collected in the Uncanny X-Men Omnibus volume 4, integrated him into team dynamics while Nocenti continued the Mojoverse through tie-in stories. His relationship with Dazzler, two characters who should not work together and absolutely do, runs through those volumes. Later appearances in X-Factor under Peter David revisited his identity questions with renewed purpose.
