John Higgins
Higgins coloured Watchmen under the constraints of newsprint and turned the limitation into a signature: secondary colours, purples and greens fighting each other, no naturalism anywhere. On The Killing Joke his palette separates memory from present so sharply that the recolour years later became a genuine controversy.
