Bermejo paints him without theatricality — scarred, physical, wearing a cheap suit — and the result is closer to Scorsese than to a superhero comic. Batman appears for four pages and it is enough.

Description

Background. The premise is a moral experiment: given permission and no consequences, would you do it? Azzarello lets several one-shot stories answer that before revealing that Graves is not a philanthropist and the offers are moves in a much older conflict.

What's inside. Collects 100 Bullets #1-58 and the short story 'Merry Christmas, Bitches' from Vertigo: Winter's Edge #3, plus a sketchbook section by Eduardo Risso.

Why it's worth it. It won multiple Eisner and Harvey Awards and is one of the two or three best crime comics ever published. Risso's use of black is extraordinary, and Azzarello's dialogue — heavy on slang and withheld information — rewards rereading more than almost anything else at Vertigo.
