Nick Spencer

Spencer often writes superheroes through systems: politics, media, corporate absurdity, secret histories and the way public roles trap private people. His Spider-Man work uses humor and continuity repair while keeping Peter Parker under social pressure.

Amazing Spider-Man by Nick Spencer Omnibus Vol. 1

Amazing Spider-Man by Nick Spencer Omnibus Vol. 1

Nick Spencer wrote Amazing Spider-Man for four years with a single goal: undoing One More Day and putting Peter and Mary Jane back together without a reset button. Volume 1 is the setup: Peter's doctorate collapsing, Mary Jane back in his life, and the Hunted arc, in which Kraven turns Central Park into a hunting ground. Spencer writes the supporting cast better than anyone since the nineties, and Ryan Ottley and Humberto Ramos make it look like a mainstream Spider-Man book should.

Superior Foes of Spider-Man Omnibus

Nick Spencer and Steve Lieber blend absurdist humour with genuine character work, making you care about people who are objectively terrible at being criminals.

Amazing Spider-Man by Nick Spencer Omnibus Vol. 2

Amazing Spider-Man by Nick Spencer Omnibus Vol. 2

The second half of Nick Spencer's Amazing Spider-Man, in which the long game with Norman Osborn and Kindred finally pays off. Sins Rising brings back the Sin-Eater with a genuinely nasty premise, and the Last Remains arc is the best Kindred material in the run. Spencer's ending is divisive, but the volume is where every thread he planted over four years gets pulled, and Sinister War puts most of the rogues' gallery in one place.

Ultimate X-Men Omnibus Vol. 4

Ultimate X-Men Omnibus Vol. 4

The fourth volume covers Ultimate Comics X-Men, the relaunch that followed Ultimatum, in which mutants are hunted openly and the United States is falling apart. Nick Spencer and Brian Wood write this as dystopia rather than superheroics: internment camps, a mutant secession movement and Kitty Pryde leading a nation. Ultimate Fallout is also where Miles Morales first appears, which makes this volume more historically loaded than its cover suggests.

Captain America by Nick Spencer Omnibus Vol. 1

Captain America by Nick Spencer Omnibus Vol. 1

Nick Spencer's Captain America — the most politically controversial Marvel run of the 2010s, beginning with the shocking revelation that Steve Rogers is a HYDRA sleeper agent. Secret Empire divided fandom but demonstrated Spencer's willingness to use superhero iconography to explore genuinely disturbing questions about how fascism operates within democratic systems. This first omnibus collects the buildup to that event and the Steve Rogers: Captain America series that redefined Cap's public role in the Marvel universe.

Captain America by Nick Spencer Omnibus Vol. 2

Captain America by Nick Spencer Omnibus Vol. 2

The conclusion of Nick Spencer's Captain America — Secret Empire and its aftermath, collected in the second omnibus of the most politically charged Cap run of the modern era. Secret Empire sees HYDRA Cap seize control of the United States, forcing every Marvel hero to confront what Captain America means when the man inside the suit represents everything the symbol is supposed to oppose. Spencer's conclusion is as controversial as his beginning, but the scale and ambition of the storytelling are undeniable.
