Description
Background. In 1991, Marvel relaunched the X-Men line with a new series simply titled X-Men, written by Chris Claremont and illustrated by Jim Lee. The first issue sold 8.1 million copies, becoming the best-selling comic book in history. Claremont had already been writing about the mutants for 16 years and Jim Lee was at the height of his popularity. The collaboration was short-lived (Claremont left soon after) but marked an entire era.
What’s inside. The first run of the Claremont-Lee relaunch of X-Men, featuring the opening story arcs that introduce the team in its new line-up and the showdowns with Magneto and the Acolytes. Full artwork by Jim Lee in the style that would define Marvel’s 1990s: dynamic, anatomically exaggerated, with spectacular compositions.
Why it’s worth it. It is the best-selling comic book in history. Jim Lee’s X-Men is the major visual reference: the characters as they were drawn throughout the following decade, the look that inspired the 1990s animated series and subsequent films. For any fan nostalgic for 1990s Marvel, this omnibus is an absolute strong.
