Description
Background. Warren Ellis contributed two major Wolverine arcs during the mid-2000s that represented a conscious departure from both the supernatural excess of some earlier runs and the pure action spectacle of Millar's Enemy of the State era. Ellis's approach was clinical and precise — strip Wolverine down to his important elements, construct a tight thriller around those elements, and resist the temptation to add unnecessary mythology. Not Dead Yet is often cited as proof that Wolverine works best in contained, grounded stories.
What's inside. This omnibus collects Ellis's Wolverine work including the Not Dead Yet and Dying Time story arcs, featuring Wolverine pursuing and being pursued by the mercenary McTeigue, whose history with Logan predates the adamantium bonding. The collection shows Ellis's ability to write focused, economical superhero action without sacrificing character complexity. Steve McNiven provides artwork for key issues.
Why it's worth it. Ellis's Wolverine work is the most purely craft-focused in the character's modern history — every story beat is earned, every page is purposeful, and the thematic clarity that Ellis brings to the character makes the arcs re-readable in a way that more maximalist Wolverine runs aren't. Not Dead Yet is frequently recommended as the ideal entry point for readers who are skeptical about Wolverine's solo potential.
