Batman by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo Omnibus Vol. 1 is the New 52 Batman starting point because it makes Gotham feel unknowable again. Court of Owls turns the city itself into a threat, while Death of the Family pushes Joker horror directly into Batman's found family. Capullo gives the run a muscular, theatrical identity.

Batman by Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo Omnibus Vol. 2 continues the New 52 run after Zero Year, moving through Endgame, Superheavy, Bloom and the closing stretch of Snyder and Capullo's Batman. It is the second half of their era, with Gotham and the idea of Batman pushed through reinvention.
