Black Panther

Black Panther, T'Challa, King of Wakanda, is one of the most important characters in modern Marvel. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in 1966, he has had three major eras: Jack Kirby’s classic run, Christopher Priest’s definitive run in the 2000s, and Ta-Nehisi Coates’ recent run, which rebuilt Wakanda’s mythology from the ground up.

Wakanda: World of Black Panther Omnibus

Wakanda: World of Black Panther gathers the series Marvel published around Ta-Nehisi Coates' Black Panther, expanding the country into a setting with its own cast. World of Wakanda by Roxane Gay is the first Marvel title written by a Black woman, and the Dora Milaje material is the best thing in the volume. Shuri by Nnedi Okorafor is the other draw — a science-fiction book about a young engineer, and the closest Marvel has come to Afrofuturism as a genre rather than a setting.

Black Panther by Christopher Priest Omnibus Vol. 1

Christopher Priest's Black Panther is the run that made T'Challa a strategist: a head of state who joined the Avengers to keep an eye on them, narrated by a bewildered State Department official. Everett K. Ross narrating out of sequence is a structural gamble that pays off completely — the reader always knows less than T'Challa, which is the point. Priest also created the Dora Milaje here. This is the run every later Black Panther writer and the films are working from.

Black Panther by Reginald Hudlin Omnibus

Reginald Hudlin's Black Panther run (2005–2008) brought the character into the mainstream spotlight at a pivotal moment. Hudlin, a Hollywood director and producer, approached the series with cinematic ambition — his opening arc 'Who Is the Black Panther?' was deliberately crafted as a film pitch and later adapted into an animated series. The run expands Wakandan mythology, introduces new villains, and pairs T'Challa with Storm of the X-Men in a high-profile royal wedding. Hudlin's tenure also features the celebrated 'Black to the Future' issue and cross-genre storytelling that pushed Wakanda into global relevance. This omnibus collects his complete run in one oversized hardcover, making it a valuable piece of Black Panther history.

Black Panther by Christopher Priest Omnibus Vol. 2

Christopher Priest's Black Panther is the run that made T'Challa a strategist rather than a costume: a head of state who joined the Avengers to keep an eye on them. This second omnibus closes it out. The back half is where Priest gets strange: King Solomon's Frogs, a second Black Panther, jumps forward and back through the timestream, and Kevin 'Kasper' Cole inheriting the mantle without permission. Including The Crew is the reason to buy this volume — it is Priest's follow-up series, cancelled at seven issues and almost impossible to find elsewhere.

Black Panther: Panther's Prey Omnibus

Don McGregor's 'Panther's Prey' is one of the most ambitious Black Panther stories ever written — a four-issue prestige-format miniseries published in 1990–1991 that reunites McGregor with his Wakanda. The story pits T'Challa against the drug lord Hardcase and his Crew in a tale that weaves street-level crime with Wakandan politics, exploring what it means to be a Black king in a world shaped by systemic inequality.

Black Panther: The Early Marvel Years Omnibus Vol. 1

Black Panther was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in Fantastic Four #52 in 1966, the first Black superhero in mainstream American comics. The Fantastic Four debut is the historically important part — T'Challa introduced not as a sidekick but as a head of state who defeats the FF to test them. The Avengers years then keep him in the main line for a decade, which is why he was available when Don McGregor and Christopher Priest later built him a mythology.

Black Panther by Ta-Nehisi Coates Omnibus

Ta-Nehisi Coates wrote Black Panther for five years and treated Wakanda as a political problem rather than a setting: a monarchy whose subjects have started asking why it exists. The first half is a revolution against T'Challa by people with legitimate grievances, which almost no superhero comic attempts. The second half moves to a Wakandan empire in deep space, thousands of years in the future, where T'Challa is an amnesiac slave. Both halves are genuinely political rather than politically flavoured.
