Description
Background. David Haller is the son of Charles Xavier. He is also Legion — a mutant with possibly unlimited power and hundreds of distinct personalities, each controlling a different power set. When a new personality takes control and begins systematically absorbing the others, Legion must confront the question of whether he can ever be whole — and whether being whole is even something he wants. Si Spurrier's X-Men Legacy is the most psychologically sophisticated X-Men book of the 2010s.
What's inside. X-Men Legacy vol. 2 #1–24, the complete Si Spurrier run with art by Tan Eng Huat and Jorge Molina. The complete story of David Haller's journey from liability to something closer to hero — on his own terms. ISBN 978-1-302-96995-0.
Why it's worth reading. Spurrier writes mental illness with a specificity and humanity that most mainstream comics completely avoid. Legion's fractured consciousness — his various personalities as distinct characters who argue, scheme and occasionally cooperate — creates a narrative structure unlike anything else in the X-Men line. This is literary superhero fiction: it has something to say about identity, inheritance and what it means to exist in someone else's shadow, and it says it with genuine craft.
