Description
Background. In the mid-1970s, Gerry Conway took over as lead writer on Thor, with John Buscema firmly established as the artist. Conway had recently made a name for himself on Amazing Spider-Man (where he wrote Gwen Stacy’s death) and brought his more mature narrative style to Thor. The Conway-Buscema run is considered one of the strongest in the history of classic Thor.
What’s inside. The fourth historical volume of Thor, featuring the complete run by Gerry Conway and John Buscema. It includes sagas centred on Asgardian mythology, showdowns with the character’s classic villains, and developments involving the supporting cast. Main artwork by John Buscema in his signature style.
Why it’s worth reading. As a writer, Conway brings a more modern narrative to Thor without losing the grandiloquent tone the character demands. Buscema is in top form and delivers some of his finest Asgardian artwork. This is classic Thor at his peak and one of the character’s lesser-known yet most solid runs.
Publication details. Fourth historical volume. US edition published by Marvel Comics. ISBN 9781302949822.
