Ms. Marvel

Ms. Marvel debuted in 2014 as Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teenager from Jersey City, New Jersey, created by writer G. Willow Wilson, editor Sana Amanat, and artist Adrian Alphona. Kamala is a superhero fangirl who gains Inhuman shape-shifting powers (embiggen) during the Inhumanity events, taking on the mantle of her favorite hero, Carol Danvers.

The series became a cultural phenomenon by authentically representing the experience of an American Muslim teenager navigating between two cultures. With a tone evoking Stan Lee's classic Spider-Man, Wilson crafted stories where Kamala's family and school problems carried as much weight as her battles against villains.

Ms. Marvel by G. Willow Wilson Omnibus

Kamala Khan’s debut as Ms. Marvel gives Marvel a hero whose power fantasy is inseparable from family, faith, school, fandom and self-doubt. G. Willow Wilson writes her as funny, awkward and brave without turning identity into a slogan; the run works because Kamala feels like a person before she feels like a symbol.
