What it contains. Volume 1 of the Captain Mar-Vell Omnibus collects the character's earliest appearances and solo series, presenting the formative stories by Stan Lee and Roy Thomas that established Mar-Vell's dual identity, his conflict between Kree duty and human loyalty, and his early relationships with Rick Jones and the Supreme Intelligence.

Why it's worth reading. Mar-Vell is the foundation of everything Captain Marvel. His series introduced the Kree Empire as a serious cosmic power, developed the Negative Zone mythology, and planted seeds that would blossom across 50 years of Marvel cosmic storytelling. Roy Thomas's work on the character in particular shows a writer finding genuine depth in a concept that could easily have remained superficial.
