Butch Guice
Jackson "Butch" Guice spent four decades refining a moody, cinematic realism. His later style — heavily photo-referenced, richly inked, built on strong staging and desaturated atmosphere — turned superhero comics into something closer to a spy thriller or war film, selling both a quiet interrogation and a full action set piece with the same grounded weight.
His defining modern run is Captain America with Ed Brubaker, where his art gave the Winter Soldier saga its cold-war chill and made those volumes a cornerstone of Brubaker's celebrated omnibus editions. Earlier he drew a long stretch of Action Comics and the launch of the Flash volume 2, worked on Micronauts and X-Factor, and co-created Resurrection Man.

For collectors, Guice is an artist whose atmosphere reads best in scale and continuity. His shadow-heavy, texture-rich pages benefit enormously from oversized hardcover reproduction, and his long runs are built to be read whole. Following his passing in 2025, his major omnibus appearances also hold a career's worth of craft in a single volume.
