Description

Background. In the mid-1970s, back at Marvel, Jack Kirby wrote and drew the Eternals — a solo auteur work built on the ancient-astronauts idea. A million years ago, the god-like Celestials visited Earth and genetically shaped three offshoots of humanity: the near-immortal Eternals, the unstable and monstrous Deviants, and ordinary humans. It reframes Earth's "gods" as beings of extraterrestrial origin, on a cosmic scale.

What's inside. The complete original run: Eternals (1976) #1–19 and Eternals Annual #1, all written and illustrated by Kirby. It introduces Ikaris, Sersi, Thena, Sprite and Makkari, the Deviant warlord Kro, and the Celestial Arishem the Judge, who presides over the judgment of worlds — the cornerstones of the entire Eternals mythology.

Why it's worth it. This is a milestone of Kirby's 1970s return to Marvel and of his late-career cosmic imagination at full power. It established the Celestials and their mythology, foundational lore for Thor, the Avengers and Marvel cosmic ever since, and it's the direct source of the 2021 Eternals film. A cornerstone of Marvel history in a single premium volume.
