Description
Background. The mid-to-late 1970s were a golden period for Doctor Strange, driven by writers who treated the character's mystical dimensions as an opportunity for genuine creative experimentation. Steve Englehart, coming off acclaimed runs on Captain America and the Avengers, brought a psychedelic, philosophically curious energy to Strange's solo title. Roger Stern, who succeeded him, was more precise and character-focused, building on Englehart's cosmological foundations with tighter, more dramatically satisfying arcs. Both writers collaborated with artists whose styles perfectly matched the material.
What's inside. This omnibus collects the Englehart and Stern Doctor Strange stories, including key Dormammu storylines, the Clea arcs, the In-Betweener conflict, and some of the most inventive Strange Tales material of the Bronze Age. Frank Miller's contributions as cover artist during the Stern era add an additional layer of historical significance to the collection.
Why it's worth it. The Englehart run in particular is regarded by many readers as the peak Doctor Strange — a period when the character was taken as seriously as any Marvel property and given room to breathe and grow. The philosophical depth, the stunning artwork, and the organic expansion of Strange's world make this omnibus one of the most satisfying volumes in the entire Doctor Strange catalog. A must for readers following Doctor Strange in order of Bronze Age Marvel.
