Description
Background. In the late 1970s, Daredevil was a second-tier title at Marvel. Then Frank Miller arrived, first as an artist and later as a writer, and transformed everything. Miller rewrote the character, turning him from a cheerful superhero into a tormented noir figure. He created Elektra, reinvented the Kingpin as the main threat, introduced the Hand’s ninjas, and established Hell’s Kitchen as the story’s setting. Daredevil would never again be a minor comic: it became one of Marvel’s most respected titles.
What’s inside. Frank Miller’s complete run on Daredevil: his arrival as an artist alongside writer Roger McKenzie, his rise to writer-artist, the creation of Elektra, the arc leading to Elektra’s death, and the masterpiece Born Again (written after returning years later with artist David Mazzucchelli). All the Miller-Daredevil material in a single volume.
Why it’s worth it. Frank Miller’s Daredevil is, for many collectors, the finest example of an author taking a minor character and reinventing them for all time. Born Again, in particular, is considered one of the 10 best superhero comics ever written. It is the run that Netflix used as the basis for its live-action series and the one every reader should be familiar with to understand Daredevil as a literary character.
