Description
Background. After eight years — longer than almost any modern writer's stay on a single Marvel title — Ed Brubaker concluded his Captain America run with Steve Rogers restored to the shield and Bucky beginning his solo Winter Soldier journey. The run had fundamentally changed how readers and the industry thought about the character, the Bucky retcon, and what espionage-driven superhero storytelling could achieve. This final omnibus closes that chapter with care and respect for what came before.
What's inside. This volume collects the later issues of Brubaker's Captain America run dealing with Steve's return to active duty, the fallout from Fear Itself including Bucky's fate, and transitional issues bridging toward the Winter Soldier ongoing series. Steve Epting and other collaborators provide artwork that maintains the cinematic quality established throughout Brubaker's run.
Why it's worth it. No Brubaker collection is complete without this volume. It provides the proper ending to a saga that began with a Cold War ghost story and grew into one of Marvel's defining modern mythologies. The Bucky/Steve dynamic, paid off here, is among the most emotionally resonant relationships Brubaker ever wrote.
