Jim Mahfood

Jim Mahfood, aka Food One, is an American underground artist whose style is pure graffiti-and-hip-hop energy: scratchy inks, chaotic crowded layouts, funky lettering and a raw DIY punk attitude. His pages feel alive and hand-made, closer to street art and album covers than to polished mainstream comics.

His creator-owned flagship is Grrl Scouts, collected in trade and hardcover form, and he is a defining modern artist on Tank Girl, extending that anarchic property with his own frenetic look. He also drew Clerks comics with Kevin Smith and a wave of indie and licensed work that shares the same loud, countercultural voice.

Spider-Man's Tangled Web Omnibus

Collects the entire Tangled Web anthology (2001-2003), the series that handed Spider-Man to some of comics' strongest voices and let them look away from the hero. Garth Ennis and John McCrea's Rhino two-parter, Greg Rucka and Eduardo Risso's noir, and Peter Milligan and Duncan Fegredo's tales sit alongside work by Brian Azzarello, Darwyn Cooke and Paul Pope, all in one hardcover.

For a collector, a Mahfood hardcover is a statement buy - you want it because you love underground, music-soaked, unapologetically messy comics. It is not for readers chasing clean superhero rendering; it is for those who treat a comic like a mixtape and value personality and attitude over polish.
